Advancing Solid-State Battery Manufacturing through Scalable Synthesis, Processing, and Analysis
The goal of the project is to develop roll-to-roll manufacturing processes for sulfide solid-state electrolyte films and scale up their production. The collaboration between Ampcera, Argonne National Lab, and Forge Nano focuses on advancing atomic layer deposition coatings for SSEs, integrating them into R2R processes, and implementing robust monitoring methods. These efforts are supported by performance testing and validation, culminating in a comprehensive techno-economic model.
Solid Electrolyte Thin Films and Membranes Using Plasma Processing to Enable High Energy Density Lithium Metal Batteries.
The goal of the project is to develop a scalable process for manufacturing lithium-ion batteries with a high-energy-density solid-state electrolyte membrane using atmospheric plasma spray and rapid spray plasma processing.
Thermally Modulated Solid-State Batteries for Ultra-Safe Fast-Charging Electric Vehicles
The goal of the project is to develop a thermally modulated solid-state battery that can enable fast charging and cold weather operation in electric vehicles. The battery combines a high-capacity Si anode, a high-voltage Ni-rich NMC cathode, and a high ion conducting sulfide-based solid-state electrolyte
Dry Laser Powder-Bed Fusion for Structured Cathode Manufacturing
The goal of the project is to develop a scalable and cost-effective dry laser powder-bed fusion method for manufacturing structured lithium-ion battery cathodes using a proprietary dry processing approach.
High-Throughput Manufacturing of Lithium Dendrite Suppression Membranes for High-Energy Density Anodeless Lithium Metal Batteries
Ampcera has developed a novel solid-state electrolyte membrane that can suppress lithium dendrite growth, a major obstacle in commercializing high-energy anodeless batteries for electric vehicles.
Strategies to Enable Lean Electrolytes for High Loading & Stable Li-S Pouch Cells
The goal of the project is to develop high-energy-density lithium-sulfur batteries by addressing challenges such as polysulfide shuttling and electrolyte consumption. The key strategies include using a redox-active conjugated polymer binder to reduce porosity and electrolyte excess, optimizing electrode and electrolyte formulations, and scaling up the manufacturing process.
Scaling-Up and Roll-to-Roll Processing of Highly Conductive Sulfide Solid-State Electrolytes
The goal of the project is to develop scalable manufacturing of high-conductivity solid-state electrolytes for all-solid-state Li batteries, to enable their mass production for electric vehicles.
Roll-to-Roll Production of Flexible Composite Solid-State Electrolytes for Lithium Metal Batteries in Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles using Gravure Printing 2
The USABC set goals for future LIBs to compete with ICE vehicles, and a low-cost roll-to-roll method for manufacturing high-performance ceramic/polymer composite SSE membranes is developed for rechargeable lithium-metal batteries.
